Welcome to the web site of James Robert Sawyer, Drummer, Percussionist and Music Entrepreneur. Since the age of 11 I have been playing and teaching various forms of drums and percussion. It all started when I decided to play drum kit at school and from then I immersed myself in all the styles I could. It was also at that time I discovered Drum Corps, a rudimental musical “sport” which I competed in until the age of 24. Over my percussive career I have been British BYBA Champion in 1994, British DCUK Champion 1995 and ‘96, placed 6th in the world DCI Championships in 1998, taught various people, given rudimental master classes around the world and drummed for the rock group Bon Jovi at the Milton Keynes Bowl in 1996. Amongst others, I have had lessons with drumming greats such as Thomas Lang, Pete Riley, Mike Sturgis, and Colin Woolway. I have also studied at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford.

As a former Drumsense teacher and a member of the International Vic Firth Education Team, I am available to give lessons to people of all ages and abilities in Drum Kit, Rudimental Studies and Percussion. Currently have a studio in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham. Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

James Robert Sawyer.
